Workshops are hosted by many different ADVANCE Institutions covering a wide range of topics (ex: mentoring) and geared towards different sets of people (ex: Department Chairs). Presentations, flyers, and other materials are listed below.
WISELI’s series of Climate Workshops for Department Chairs are the culmination of efforts by many faculty and staff at UW-Madison during the past three years. The Leadership, Communities, and Values Initiative (LCVI) and the UW ADVANCE Center for Institutional Change joined forces in 2006 to design and offer leadership workshops for deans, associate deans, department chairs and emerging leaders. The ADVANCE initiative at URI includes 5 general areas of focus. As part of UMaine’s NSFsupported ADVANCE Project, funds will be available to faculty in STEM and social and behavioral science (SBS) fields and to others who directly promote ADVANCE-related efforts aimed at increasing the representation and advancement of women in the academic STEM and SBS careers. Once again we will be accepting proposals in the program areas outlined below.
Our goal? Assist incumbent women faculty in STEM as they develop their professional networks of collaborators, mentors, and campus supporters. The primary goal is to increase career resilience by establishing a supportive web of professional and social relations which incumbent women faculty can tap into when challenges and dilemmas arise in their career paths. Specific programs will include group workshops and one-on-one coaching opportunities that increase appreciation for and use of networks.
SU-ADVANCE hosted its first day-long workshop, giving women STEM faculty members a chance to (Re)Connect with each other and with the program following a very busy summer.

The first in a series of exciting leadership development sessions was held May 18, 2011 in support of the ADVANCE -Institutional Transformation grant funded by the National Science Foundation. The Lehigh Chapter of Sigma Xi presents: "A Workshop for Ethical Scientists." Dr. M. The main goal of the Workshop is to assist Department Heads in ADVANCE Target Departments in the recruitment and retention of women STEM faculty. Department Heads will recommend candidates for the Workshops; they will also host their candidates for one afternoon and evening during the Workshop.
There are 12 ADVANCE activities that are designed to transform Texas A&M University by increasing gender equity for women STEM faculty. Each activity is aligned with one or more of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace (PHW) practices – the underlying, evidence-based framework for this initiative. The activities are organized into 3 broad categories: Climate Change, Success Enchancement and Recruitment and Retention.

Understanding personalities in the lab: the dynamics of scientific relationships
The strongest predictor of success in recruiting women is the inclusion of women in search committees. The ADVANCE Center for Women faculty, in conjunction with the Dean of Faculties, is expanding existing gender bias training for all members of search committees, committees making decisions on tenure and promotion, and committees making decisions on university and college awards.
The Summer Writing Retreat will provide a means of supporting the research career of STEM-SBS female faculty by providing a circle of faculty who focus on completing either a refereed paper or proposal during the summer. The goal is to redefine the role of female faculty in STEM-SBS by strengthening their research and writing knowledge. Ultimately, this component can be used to support all pre-tenure faculty, as part of the university’s promotion/tenure review process.

Georgia Tech Current Initiatives
The ADVANCE program was institutionalized in 2007 at Georgia Tech. The program focuses on equity in tenure and promotion; faculty development to promote faculty research and advancement; tracking progress on hiring and advancement, particularly of female and underrepresented minority faculty; faculty work-life needs and initiatives, and other aspects of Georgia Tech’s integrated approach to institutionalized factors supporting the full participation and advancement of women.
