Each year talented undergraduate students interested in pursuing an academic career in areas related to: Physics, Electric Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics and/or Computer Science, are selected. These students will participate in a series of activities designed to prepare them to succeed in graduate school and to join UPR-H faculty after completing a Ph.D. in science.

“Opportunity grants were established to maximize the chance of success for women faculty at Case by providing support of current or proposed projects and activities where funding is difficult to obtain through other sources. $60,000 was available in this fund, and ACES made multiple awards. Prof Dev Grants Awardees for 2011
Mentoring programs will be offered to faculty at the assistant and the associate levels. Mentoring will be expanded beyond one individual to a team of mentors, who will participate in a rigorous training program and will be involved with their mentees throughout the academic year in monthly lunches and workshops, on topics such as vita building and promotion strategies. In addition, mentors will gather once per semester to discuss mentoring issues and challenges.
SU-ADVANCE hosted its first day-long workshop, giving women STEM faculty members a chance to (Re)Connect with each other and with the program following a very busy summer.
The WVU ADVANCE Sponsorship Program is an external mentoring program supported by the NSF ADVANCE program for women in NSF funded disciplines in CEMR and ECAS. The WVU ADVANCE project aims to catalyze institutional climate change, promote diversity and inclusivity, support women in science and engineering, and promote the success of all faculty.
Dr. Amber Rice joined Lehigh University as Assistant Professor in Biological Sciences in Fall 2011. Her research aims to understand the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms underlying the process of speciation. Lehigh ADVANCE approved Dr. Rice’s application for a Faculty Development travel grant to attend WEBS: Women Evolving Biological Sciences this November.

The Summer Writing Retreat will provide a means of supporting the research career of STEM-SBS female faculty by providing a circle of faculty who focus on completing either a refereed paper or proposal during the summer. The goal is to redefine the role of female faculty in STEM-SBS by strengthening their research and writing knowledge. Ultimately, this component can be used to support all pre-tenure faculty, as part of the university’s promotion/tenure review process.
ESWN is an international peer-mentoring network of women in the Earth Sciences, many of whom are in the early stages of their careers. Our mission is to promote career development, build community, provide opportunities for informal mentoring and support, and facilitate professional collaborations.
